1. Miksi ihminen hikoilee?

Iho on ihmisen suurin elin. Eräs ihon monista tehtävistä on osallistua lämmönsäätelyyn eli ylläpitää kehon normaalilämpötilaa. Kehon lämpötilan sääteleminen tapahtuu verenkierron ja hikoilemisen avulla. Lämmönsäätely tapahtuu pienien hikirauhasten avulla. Pieniä hikirauhasia on muun muassa kämmenissä ja jalkapohjissa.

Kainaloissa on suuria hikirauhasia, jotka eivät osallistu kehon lämmönsäätelyyn. Kainaloiden hikirauhasten alkuperäinen tarkoitus on luultavasti ollut ihmisen ominaishajun kehittäminen.

Kuinka kainalot tuottavat hikeä?

Kainaloissa on kahdentyyppisiä hikirauhasia, jotka sijaitsevat välittömästi ihon pinnan alla. Ekkriinirauhaset erittävät kirkasta, hajutonta nestettä. Apokriinirauhaset erittävät paksumpaa nestettä, joka usein tuoksuu hyvin voimakkaasti.

Miksi osa ihmisistä hikoilee paljon?

Joidenkin ihmisten hikirauhaset toimivat hyvin aktiivisesti. Ne erittävät hikeä, vaikkei varsinaista syytä hieneritykselle ole. Yliaktiiviset hikirauhaset erittävät hikeä myös määrällisesti enemmän kuin lämmönsäätelyn kannalta olisi tarpeen. Joidenkin ihmisten hikirauhaset tuottavat hikeä neljä tai viisi kertaa normaalia enemmän.

Onko liikahikoilu epänormaalia?

Ei lainkaan. Liikahikoilu on miljoonien ihmisten ongelma. Amerikkalaisia tutkittaessa todettiin, että kaksi kymmenestä amerikkalaisesta kokee hikoilevansa liikaa. Ongelmasta ei puhuta mielellään. Onkin vaikea arvioida, kuinka moni suomalainen kärsii tästä vaietusta ongelmasta. Tamron arvion mukaan kolme prosenttia suomalaisista kokee hikoilun harmilliseksi, ja yksi sadasta suomalaisesta kärsii päivittäin liikahikoilun tuomista ongelmista.

Voidaan arvioida, että kymmenettuhannet suomalaismiehet ja -naiset joutuvat painiskelemaan hikiongelman kanssa.

Mistä tietää, onko kyse liikahikoilusta?

Jos vastaat “kyllä” useampaan kuin yhteen seuraavista kysymyksistä, saatat kärsiä liikahikoilusta:

Joudutko joskus nolostumaan kainaloittesi hikoilemisesta?
Vaikuttaako kainaloiden hikoileminen jokapäiväiseen elämääsi?

Lyhyesti: mikä on miraDry?

MiraDry-hoito on turvallinen, kliiniset tutkimukset läpäissyt ratkaisu kainaloiden liikahikoiluun. Yhdysvaltojen elintarvike- ja lääkevirasto on tutkinut ja hyväksynyt miraDry-hoidon. Toimenpiteellä on myös Euroopan Unionissa käytettävä, turvallisuuden takaava CE-merkintä.

Toimenpide on nopea ja ei-kirurginen. Se tehdään lääkärin vastaanotolla.

Kuinka miraDry toimii?

MiraDry-hoidossa suunnataan lämpöenergiaa kontrolloidusti ja tarkasti alueille, joissa kainaloiden hikirauhaset sijaitsevat. Lämmön vaikutuksesta hikirauhaset hajoavat ja niiden toiminta estyy pysyvästi.

Mitä miraDry-hoidossa tapahtuu?

Cityklinikan lääkäri räätälöi hoidon molemmille kainaloalueille erikseen, niin että mikroaallot osuvat tarkasti hikirauhasiin. Ennen hoitoa kainalot puudutetaan, jotta hoito olisi mahdollisimman miellyttävä. Kun kainaloalueesi ovat puutuneet, lääkäri vie käsikappaleen toistuvasti kainaloidesi iholle. Käsikappaleesta lähtevä sähkömagneettinen lämpöenergia hajottaa kainaloiden hikirauhasia.

Kuinka pitkästä toimenpiteestä on kysymys?

Toimenpide kestää noin puolitoista tuntia. Jos hikoilu on erittäin runsasta, tarvitaan joskus kaksi toimenpidekertaa kolmen kuukauden välein. Näin varmistetaan korkealaatuiset lopputulokset, jotka ovat pysyviä.

Sattuuko miraDry-hoito?

Suuri osa potilaista tuntee hieman kipua paikallispuudutusta annettaessa. Itse toimenpiteen aikana iholla tuntuu pientä painetta ja lämpöä. Joissakin kohdissa voi tuntua hetkellistä kuumaa pistelyä, joka kestää muutamia sekunteja. Tuntemukset eivät ole sietämättömiä.

Kun potilaat arvioivat toimenpiteen epämiellyttävyyttä asteikolla 1–10 (1 — miellyttävä, 10 — hyvin epämiellyttävä), keskimääräinen arvosana on kaksi.

Mitä muita vaihtoehtoja on?

Liikahikoilu on yleinen vaiva. Sitä hoidetaan monilla tavoin. Hoitojen avulla pyritään yleensä estämään väliaikaisesti hikirauhasten toiminta. Antiperspiranttien vaikutus kestää yleensä noin vuorokauden, botuliinin avulla hikirauhasten toiminta estetään muutamaksi kuukaudeksi.

Pysyvästi kainaloiden hikoileminen saadaan poistetuksi myös kirurgian avulla. Leikkauksiin sisältyy aina jonkin verran komplikaatioiden riskejä. MiraDry on toistaiseksi ainoa toimenpide, jonka avulla voidaan tarjota pysyviä ja pitkäkestoisia tuloksia liikahikoilun hoitoon ilman kirurgiaa ja leikkauksiin liittyviä riskejä.

Voidaanko miraDry tehdä muille kuin kainaloiden alueelle?

Ei. MiraDry-toimenpiteellä poistetaan vain kainaloiden liikahikoilu. Mikroaallot toimivat vain, mikäli hoitoalueella on rasvakudosta, kuten kainaloissa on.

Käsissä, jalkaterissä ja otsassa ihonalaisen rasvan määrä on erittäin vähäinen, joten mikroaaltoavusteinen hoito ei näille alueille sovi.
