Treatment Instructions – After Botulinum Treatment

After botulinum treatment, the treated area may experience the following temporary side effects:

  • mild redness
  • bruising
  • swelling
  • sensitivity

All of these are common post-injection reactions. They are temporary and usually resolve within a few days. If symptoms persist or if other symptoms occur, contact the provider who administered the botulinum treatment.
Avoid touching the treated area for the first six hours. Afterward, you can gently wash the area with water and cleansing products. Light makeup can be applied to the treated area immediately after the procedure. Avoid using organic cosmetics in the first few days. Avoid heat (tanning beds, sauna, direct sunlight) or excessive cold in the first three days. It is also advisable to avoid physical exertion in the first few days. Physical activity before and after botulinum treatment often affects the permanence of the treatment results.

If you have had cold sores in the past, needle punctures may cause them to recur. Medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (such as aspirin) and some herbal remedies may increase the appearance of bruising or bleeding at the injection site.

The results of botulinum treatment are not immediately visible after treatment. Results typically appear about three days after the treatment and continue to improve over the following two weeks. The final result can be evaluated two weeks after the treatment.

The results of botulinum treatment typically last for 3–6 months. Metabolism varies individually, which explains the differences in the duration of treatment results. Follow-up treatments are usually performed once or twice a year.
