In case it is determined within three months from the first treatment that the effectiveness of the treatment was insufficient.
The substance is administered from the vial using an injection needle directly into the desired muscle. Due to the fine needle, the injection is barely felt, and it leaves little trace.
The treatment is generally very well tolerated. Many find the botulinum procedure painless. However, pain sensations are always individual. If desired, the area can be numbed, for example, with a cream.
The effects of the treatment begin within 3–4 days. After two weeks, the results are at their best.
In miraDry treatment, controlled and precise heat energy is directed to the areas where the sweat glands in the armpits are located. As a result of the heat, the sweat glands break down, and their function is permanently inhibited.
The treatment is customized for each armpit area so that the heat energy precisely targets the sweat glands.
Before the treatment, the armpits are numbed to ensure maximum comfort. Once the armpit areas are numb, the doctor positions the device’s handpiece near the armpit. The electromagnetic heat energy emitted from the handpiece breaks down the sweat glands in the armpits.
The procedure takes about an hour. If excessive sweating is particularly severe, we recommend two treatment sessions three months apart. This ensures high-quality, permanent results.
Most patients notice dramatic differences compared to before. Sweating and the amount of perspiration decrease significantly, according to the latest clinical study, averaging 82 percent (H. Chin-Ho Hong, MD, Mark Lupin, MD et al; Dermatol. Surgery 2012; 38:728-735).
The reduction in sweating is immediately noticeable after the procedure. If needed, the procedure can be repeated after three months. This ensures excellent and lifelong results.
As with all treatments, results with miraDry are individual and may vary to some extent among patients.
The results of botulinum treatment are temporary. Their duration is always individual. Typically, sweating significantly diminishes for 3–6 months after botulinum toxin treatment.
The results of miraDry are permanent. The broken sweat glands do not grow back, and new sweat glands do not form in the armpits. Sweating decreases and disappears permanently. (Li, Gang et al. 2009.)
The skin is the largest organ in the human body. One of its many tasks is to participate in thermoregulation, maintaining the body’s normal temperature.
Sweat glands help the body adapt to the prevailing temperature. Thermoregulation occurs through the action of small sweat glands, found, for example, in the palms and soles.
In the armpits, there are large sweat glands that do not contribute to the body’s thermoregulation. The original purpose of armpit sweat glands was likely the development of human body odor.
The human body has over four million sweat glands, with only two percent located in the armpits. When two percent of sweat glands are removed, the body’s thermoregulation system continues to function perfectly, relying on the remaining sweat glands.
Removing armpit sweat glands is a safe procedure. There is no harm in their removal, and eliminating armpit sweat glands does not affect the functioning of the body’s thermoregulation system.
miraDry is suitable for the treatment of women and men over 18 years old. The procedure can address excessive sweating in the armpits.
Excessive sweating in other parts of the body (e.g., hands, intimate areas, feet) cannot be treated with miraDry. Excessive sweating in hands, feet, and face is still treated with botox.
Excessive underarm sweating can be treated using methods other than botox or miraDry treatment. Antiperspirants can temporarily inhibit the function of sweat glands. Surgeries are also used to treat excessive sweating. However, surgical procedures always involve some degree of health risks.

Joidenkin ihmisten hikirauhaset toimivat hyvin aktiivisesti. Ne erittävät hikeä, vaikkei varsinaista syytä hieneritykselle ole. Yliaktiiviset hikirauhaset erittävät hikeä myös määrällisesti enemmän kuin lämmönsäätelyn kannalta olisi tarpeen. Joidenkin ihmisten hikirauhaset tuottavat hikeä neljä tai viisi kertaa normaalia enemmän.
Liikahikoilu on miljoonien ihmisten ongelma. Amerikkalaisia tutkittaessa todettiin, että kaksi kymmenestä amerikkalaisesta kokee hikoilevansa liikaa. Ongelmasta ei puhuta mielellään. Onkin vaikea arvioida, kuinka moni suomalainen kärsii tästä vaietusta ongelmasta. Joidenkin arvioiden mukaan kolme prosenttia suomalaisista kokee hikoilevansa liikaa. Heistä joka kolmas kokee hikoilun aiheuttavan huomattavaa haittaa päivittäin.
Cityklinikalla hikoilua ja liikahikoilua hoidetaan kahden erilaisen toimenpiteen avulla:
Liikahikoiluna pidetään ylenmääräistä kainaloiden, käsien, jalkojen tai vartalon muun osan hikoilua, joka häiritsee ihmisen arkea. Vaiva voi aiheuttaa hankaluuksia sosiaalisiin suhteisiin, työelämään ja jopa ihmisen itsetuntoon. Myös vaatteista huolehtiminen saattaa olla haastavaa; vaatevalinnat on tehtävä hikoilun ehdoilla, ja vaatteiden käyttöikä lyhenee hikoilun takia.
Tavallisesti liikahikoilu alkaa jo lapsuuden tai nuoruuden aikana, ja vaiva on pahimmillaan varhaisaikuisuudessa. Usein ongelma kulkee suvussa. Liikahikoiluun voi liittyä myös punastumisherkkyyttä. Stressi ja jännittäminen tai jopa maustetut ruuat saattavat lisätä hien määrää.
Aina liikahikoilu ei ole ensisijainen vaiva. Hikoileminen voi olla oire jostain muusta. Osa masennuslääkkeistä ja beetasalpaajista aiheuttaa hikoilua, samoin muutamat sairaudet, esim. kilpirauhasen liikatoiminta tai diabetes. Keski-ikäisten naisten hikoilun takaa löytyvät monesti vaihdevuodet. Jos liikahikoilu on oire eikä ensisijainen vaiva, on syytä tutkia ja hoitaa ensin sitä syytä, joka hikoilua aiheuttaa.
Liikahikoilu esiintyy lähes aina symmetrisesti: jalkojen liikahikoilussa molemmat jalat hikoavat, kainaloiden liikahikoilu kastelee molemmat kainalot.

MiraDry on ratkaisu, jos kainaloiden liikahikoilu vaivaa. Mikroaaltoteknologiaan perustuva toimenpide on markkinoiden tehokkain hoitomuoto kainaloiden hikoiluun. MiraDry on puolentoista tunnin pituinen ei-kirurginen toimenpide, joka tehdään lääkärin vastaanotolla. Hoito perustuu tarkasti ohjatun, turvallisen mikroaaltoenergian käyttöön. Elimistölle vaaratonta lämpöenergiaa suunnataan kainaloiden alueelle niin, että kainaloiden hikirauhaset menettävät lämmön vaikutuksesta toimintakykynsä. Hoito kohdistuu sekä ekkriini- että apokriinirauhasiin. Tämän vuoksi hikinesteen lisäksi häviää myös hien epämiellyttävä haju. Hoidon jälkeen myös karvankasvu kainaloissa vähenee tai loppuu kokonaan.
MiraDry-toimenpiteen avulla saavutetaan pysyviä tuloksia. Vaikeat tapaukset saadaan pysyvästi kuriin, kun toimenpide toistetaan kolmen kuukauden kuluttua ensimmäisestä miraDry-käsittelystä. MiraDry ei vaadi toipumisaikaa. Hoidon jälkeen potilas voi palata välittömästi takaisin jokapäiväisten aktiviteettiensa ja harrastustensa pariin. Urheilun voi aloittaa muutaman päivän kuluttua hoidosta. Hoidon jälkeen esiintyy joskus pientä turvotusta ja kipua hoitoalueella. Mahdolliset kivut ja turvotus häviävät muutaman viikon kuluessa. Kainaloalueen tuntomuutoksia esiintyy joillakin potilailla. Ne häviävät vähitellen viikkojen kuluessa.
Muut hoitomuodot, kuten antiperspiratit ja botuliinipistokset, ovat väliaikaisia ratkaisuja liikahikoiluun, ja niiden toiminta perustuu hikirauhasten väliaikaiseen rauhoittamiseen tai lamaannuttamiseen. MiraDry sen sijaan tarjoaa pysyvän ratkaisun hikoiluongelmaan. MiraDry-hoitoa ei tarvitse uusia. Siksi se on ylivertainen muihin ei-kirurgisiin hoitomuotoihin verrattuna.
