The procedure is almost always an outpatient procedure performed in an operating room. The procedure requires anesthesia or pain relief. General anesthesia (sedation) is a possible form of anesthesia, but often the procedure can be done under local anesthesia and intravenous sedation. Lidocaine, which is administered into the tissues along with the water jet before the actual suction of fat, also helps alleviate pain. If liposuction is performed under general anesthesia, it is essential to follow fasting instructions. Anesthesia should not be feared, but careful preparation is necessary.
Liposuction usually takes several hours depending on the extent of suction required. The actual liposuction itself typically takes between one to three hours. Generally, water jet liposuction takes less time than traditional liposuction.
Recovery time varies individually. Usually, any discomfort subsides within a few days. Return to daily activities and, for example, exercise, always occurs according to the doctor’s instructions.
NeckTite is a radiofrequency-assisted neck lift performed as a minor surgical procedure under local anesthesia. It is suitable for removing fat under the chin and correcting aging changes in the neck.
The WAL method refers to liposuction, whereas NeckTite treatment involves radiofrequency energy, which also tightens the skin and subcutaneous tissue.
After water jet liposuction, pain and swelling are possible. However, swelling, bruising, and pain are usually less than after traditional liposuction surgery. Recovery time varies depending on how many areas have been treated and how large the suction areas have been. Generally, recovery takes from two days to a week. Since WAL liposuction is almost always performed under local anesthesia, patients do not need to allocate time for recovery from general anesthesia or sedation.
Preliminary results of liposuction are visible immediately after the procedure. It takes several months for the body to fully recover, and the final result can be assessed only 3–6 months after liposuction.
Every liposuction procedure carries common side effects. Swelling and bruising are always possible and even likely. Numbness in the treated area may also occur. However, these sensations are usually temporary.
Risks include:
Mild asymmetry
Seroma (fluid accumulation)
Hematoma (blood clot)
Potential risks associated with anesthesia
Water jet liposuction is gentler compared to traditional liposuction surgery. Since fat cells are dislodged using a water jet, there is minimal swelling, bruising, and other damage. Recovery is therefore faster, and even large areas may not necessarily require anesthesia. This eliminates the risks associated with general anesthesia.
