WAL on lyhenne englanninkielisistä sanoista water-assisted liposuction. Water-assisted liposuction on suomeksi vesiavusteinen rasvaimu. Kuten nimi sanoo, toimenpiteessä käytetään vesisuihkua rasvasolujen irroittamiseen.
Olipa kyse mistä rasvaimutekniikasta tahansa, rasva imetään pois ohuella, ontolla kanyylilla. Perinteisessä rasvaimussa kanyyli viedään kudoksen läpi paikkaan, josta rasva tahdotaan poistaa. Kun kanyyli on oikealla paikallaan, rasva hajotetaan mekaanisesti, minkä jälkeen hajotettu rasva onkin helppo imeä pois.
Vesisuihkurasvaimussa rasvaa ei tuhota ja hajoteta mekaanisesti, vaan se irroitellaan pois vesisuihkulla. Tämän vuoksi irroitetut rasvasolut eivät kuole, ja niitä voidaan käsitellä ja siirtää paikasta toiseen. Rasvansiirto voidaan tehdä esimerkiksi kasvoihin, rintoihin tai vaikkapa pakaroihin.
Body-Jet WAL -rasvaimussa lääkäri käsittelee rasvakudosta sykemäisellä vesisuihkulla. Vesisuihkulla voidaan pehmittää rasvaa ja irroittaa rasvakudosta ympäröivistä kudoksista. Rasvan irroittaminen on siis paljon hellävaraisempaa kuin sen irroittaminen perinteisellä, mekaanisella rasvaimumenetelmällä. Yhtä aikaa vesisuihkukäsittelyn kanssa rasvaa imetään pois ohuella kanyylilla.
Body-Jet-rasvaimussa on kolme vaihetta:
Vesisuihkurasvaimu (eli Body-Jet WAL) on lähes aina päiväkirurginen toimenpide, joka tehdään leikkaussalissa. Toimenpide vaatii anestesiaa eli kivunlievitystä. Yleisanestesia (nukutus) on mahdollinen anestesiamuoto, mutta usein toimenpide voidaan tehdä paikallispuudutuksessa ja suonensisäisessä sedaatiossa. Kipua lievittää myös lidokaiini, jota viedään kudoksiin vesisuihkun mukana ennen rasvan varsinaista imemistä. Jos rasvaimu tehdään nukutuksessa, on elintärkeää noudattaa paasto-ohjeita. Nukutusta ei tarvitse pelätä, mutta siihen on valmistauduttava huolellisesti.
Rasvaimu vie aikaa yleensä muutaman tunnin riippuen siitä, kuinka laajalle alueelle imu tehdään. Itse rasvaimuun aikaa menee keskimäärin tunnista kolmeen tuntiin. Lähtökohtaisesti vesisuihkurasvaimu vie vähemmän aikaa kuin perinteiset rasvaimut.
Toipilasajan pituus vaihtelee yksilöittäin. Useimmiten kivut ovat ohi jo muutamassa päivässä. Paluu arkeen ja esimerkiksi liikuntaharrasteisiin tapahtuu aina lääkärin ohjeiden mukaan.
Vesisuihkurasvaimu tehdään leikkaussalissa, joka on puhdas ja steriili. Leikkaussalissa lääkäriä avustaa kokenut sairaanhoitaja.
Toimenpide on kestoltaan lyhyempi kuin perinteinen rasvaimu, koska vesisuihkun avulla rasvaa voidaan irroittaa ja pehmittää entistä nopeammin.
Jos olet normaalipainoinen tai hiukan ylipainoinen ja sinulla on sitkeitä rasvakertymiä, jotka eivät reagoi ruokavaliomuutoksiin, rasvaimu voi sopia sinulle. Body-Jet-rasvaimuja tehdään paljon esimerkiksi seuraaville alueille:
Rasvaa voidaan saman toimenpiteen aikana poistaa monesta kohdasta.

Vesisuihkurasvaimun jälkeen särky ja turvotus ovat mahdollisia. Turvotus, mustelmat ja kivut ovat kuitenkin pienempiä kuin rasvaimuleikkauksen jälkeen. Toipumisaika vaihtelee sen mukaan, kuinka monta aluetta on käsitelty ja kuinka suuria imualueet ovat olleet. Yleensä toipumiseen varataan aikaa kahdesta vuorokaudesta viikkoon. Koska WAL-rasvaimu tehdään lähes aina paikallispuudutuksessa, potilaan ei tarvitse varata aikaa yleisanestesiasta eli nukutuksesta toipumiseen.
Rasvaimun alustavat tulokset näkyvät heti toimenpiteen jälkeen. Kehon täydelliseen toipumiseen menee aikaa useita kuukausia, ja lopullinen tulos on arvioitavissa vasta 3–6 kuukauden päästä rasvaimusta.
Jokaiseen rasvaimuun liittyy yleisiä sivuvaikutuksia. Turvotus ja mustelmat ovat aina mahdollisia ja todennäköisiäkin. Toimenpidealueen tunnottomuuttakin esiintyy. Tuntohäiriöt ovat ohimeneviä.
Riskejä:
Vesisuihkurasvaimu on hellävaraisempi verrattuna perinteiseen rasvaimuleikkaukseen. Koska rasvasoluja irroitetaan vesisuihkun avulla, turvotusta, mustelmia ja muita vaurioita tulee vain vähän. Toipuminen on siis nopeaa, eikä nukutusta välttämättä tarvita edes suuria alueita käsiteltäessä. Näin myös yleisanestesiaan eli nukutukseen liittyvät riskit poistuvat.
