The vaginal ring muscle plays a vital role in the female body. It supports the bladder, uterus, and bowel, helping to keep them in their correct positions. Additionally, the strong muscles of the perineum separate the vagina from the rectum. This musculature is essential for stability and also supports bowel function.

The vaginal and pelvic floor muscles are often put under significant strain during childbirth. Varying degrees of damage may occur – the muscle may stretch and weaken, which is often experienced as looseness, or it may even tear. The risk increases especially during the birth of a large baby, rapid deliveries, or when the muscles do not have time to adapt properly.

As a result, pain during intercourse, weakened pelvic floor control, accumulation of air or fluid in the vagina, as well as urinary or fecal incontinence can negatively affect quality of life. Many women feel that something is not quite right in the intimate area after giving birth.
