The laser device used for hair removal emits laser light at a wavelength that can penetrate the pigment particles in the hair. The light emitted by the device is converted into heat energy, which destroys the pigmented hair and hair follicle. The destroyed hair follicle can never produce new hair.
The laser light targets only the hair follicle, not the surrounding skin.
Hair can be removed from any part of the body with laser treatment. However, hair cannot be removed from the eye area using laser.
Laser hair removal is most effective for people with light skin and dark hair. It is not suitable for very light hair, as the laser light targets the pigment particles in the hair, which allows it to destroy the hair follicle.
For light hair in the underarm area, hair can be removed using the miraSmooth device.
Laser light always penetrates the pigment in the hair. Therefore, laser hair removal is effective when the hair contains enough pigment particles. Hair contains enough pigment only during the growth phase. In the same area — for example, in the underarms — some hair follicles are in the growth phase, while others are not. Only a portion of the hair follicles are destroyed during one treatment session.
Hair in the resting or shedding phases does not contain pigment. The laser does not bind to colorless hair. For this reason, hair follicles in the resting or shedding phase do not react to the laser. To target these hair follicles, they must first transition back into the growth phase.
When laser treatments are performed multiple times at intervals of a few weeks, all hair follicles can be treated during their active phase.
The number of treatment sessions is always individual. Sometimes all the hair follicles in the treated area can be destroyed with four laser sessions. Often, more than four laser treatments are needed. In rare cases, up to eight sessions may be required.
However, with a series of laser treatments, a permanent result is always achieved, unlike with electrolysis, waxing, or other hair removal methods. This is why laser remains the top choice for hair removal.

When hair is removed by pulling, tweezing, or ripping it out from the hair follicle, the blood circulation in the area is activated. The blood brings oxygen and nutrients, which help the hair grow faster. Repeated epilation, waxing, and tweezing stimulate hair growth. The more often hair is plucked and pulled out by the roots, the more blood flows to the area. The oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood that flows to the removal area nourishes the hair follicles, promoting the growth of thicker, healthier hair.
