After breast surgery
- You can take a shower 24 hours after the surgery. After showering, gently pat the wound dry with a towel and preferably also with a hairdryer.
- Stitches will be removed one week after the procedure. Before coming for stitch removal, it’s recommended to shower the suture area at home more thoroughly and for a longer time than usual. This will make it easier to remove the stitches.
- Skin tape (Micropore) should be kept over the wound as instructed. Follow the instructions carefully regarding the application and changing of the tape.
- Support bras should be worn 3-5 weeks day and night, and then an additional three weeks during the day. Follow the surgeon’s instructions regarding the selection and use of the bras.
- A follow-up appointment is scheduled for six months after the surgery.
Sports and other hobbies
- After breast surgery, it’s advisable to start moving as soon as possible. We recommend long, gentle walks. However, avoid extreme positions of the arms initially.
- Three weeks after the surgery, broader movement of the arms and more vigorous exercise is allowed, but sports that require more intense use of the arms (such as squash, tennis, weightlifting) are prohibited.
- Full range of motion and exercise of the arms are allowed 4-8 weeks after the surgery.
- Always remember to stay within the limits of pain during your recovery period.
- We recommend starting lymphatic therapy before the surgery and continuing it according to the doctor’s instructions after the surgery.
